Marin/Sonoma Mosquito and Vector Control District Hosts Open House

Cotati, CA-The Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District (MSMVCD) invites the public to its Open House to learn about the vital role the District plays keeping communities safe from mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases.  The Open House will take place rain or shine, on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at 595 Helman Lane in Cotati.

The District will showcase its environmentally-sound Integrated Vector Management Program with a variety of educational displays, including mosquito and tick surveillance methods used to rapidly identify and prevent emerging threats to public health, non-toxic rodent control strategies, and tips for mosquito source reduction around the home.

The event is family friendly with a free lunch and plenty of activities for all ages, including a Bug Zoo, face painting, maggot art, and a jumpy house.  Attendees can even take home ladybugs for their gardens.

Children can enter the Backyard Bugs Contest, which encourages them to explore nature and learn about insects. Entry forms are available online and must be submitted before 12:30 p.m. on the day of the event.  

ABOUT MSMVCD: For over 100 years, the District has protected the health of the communities it serves from mosquitoes and other disease-carrying vectors with environmentally-compatible, cost-effective methods.  The District reduces mosquito and disease-carrying vector populations, and rapidly identifies and responds to emerging disease threats and other public health issues. The District is proud to serve the 23 cities and unincorporated communities of Marin and Sonoma Counties.
