High Abundance of Mosquitoes (Spring 2026)

The District works diligently to control mosquitoes year-round in Marin and Sonoma counties. Currently we are seeing an abundance of adult mosquitoes, including treehole and salt marsh species in certain areas of Marin and Sonoma counties.  These particular mosquitoes are extremely aggressive in their biting behavior.

Treehole mosquitoes are aggressive and can emerge in high numbers from standing water that has collected in cavities of oaks and bay trees. These mosquitoes are known vectors of dog heartworm.

Some of these mosquitoes can fly up to 20 miles from the source, can emerge as adults by the thousands, and cause extreme discomfort  to residents, visitors, livestock, and wildlife.  Adult mosquitoes are being found in high numbers adjacent to large areas such as wetlands and marshes near schools and subdivisions.

We are currenly receiving a high number of requests for service and doing our best to respond to all requests in a timely manner.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
