Step Into the World of Vector Control Open House - September 19, 2026

A woman stands at a booth for a Backyard Bugs Contest, while a mascot in a striped bug costume waves at attendees.

Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes when a mosquito control technician gets a service request? Or what a mosquito trap looks like up close? Maybe you’ve always wanted to take a picture of yourself riding a giant mosquito. Yes, a mosquito! Now’s your chance at the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito and Vector Control District's Open House.

This is your invitation to step into the fascinating world of vector control and see how our team works year-round to protect public health in Marin and Sonoma counties. And the best part? It’s ALL FREE!

Join us for a family-friendly day of fun, food and a behind-the-scenes look at how we protect our communities from mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases. The event takes place on September 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 595 Helman Lane in Cotati.

We’ve packed the day with hands-on activities, behind-the-scenes demonstrations and plenty of opportunities to meet the people who are out in our communities every day keeping mosquitoes and other vectors in check.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Outsmart the vectors in our exciting escape room.
  • Get adventurous with your taste buds and try a chocolate-covered cricket.
  • Take the ultimate bug photo while riding a giant mosquito, yellowjacket, tick or rat.
  • Get an up-close look at our field equipment, including our airboat, ARGOs and other tools of the trade.
  • See live mosquito and tick displays and learn how we find and monitor these tiny threats.
  • Meet our vector control technicians and find out what they actually do when they show up at your door.
  • Learn about rodent control and prevention.
  • Get the scoop on yellowjackets and what you can do when they start taking over your backyard.
  • Learn how to prevent mosquito problems around your home.
  • Get tick-bite prevention tips and take home a tick remover.
